Zoe Hendricks (16) plays for Westridge FC and has been playing for five years. “I am a Man United fan and watched a lot of soccer, which motivated me to do better. I like playing with the boys because they challenge me, help me and don’t treat me like a girl. I like being part of the team and would like to make a career out of soccer. Playing in the tournament gives me the chance to be spotted and could get me sponsorships or bursaries to further my studies and my soccer,” she says. To donate call Karin on 072 994 8803.

Cape Town - Three Mitchell’s Plain girls hope to be jetting off to the United States for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent South Africa at a youth soccer tournament in April next year.

Ikapa United has been participating in this tournament for 17 years and felt the need to take a girls’ team for the first time, so next year will be the first that the women’s team will attend.

The tournament will take place for three weeks starting in March next year.

Each team player must pay R27 500 to be able to go.

The girls’ parents have started planning fundraising but still need sponsorships from businesses and residents.

The total sum of money must be raised by early February, while R1600 must be paid by the end of the month.
