A total of 13 trees have been planted in celebration of Arbor Day.

Local NGO Seed for Life facilitated the planting of water berry trees at the Beacon organic garden based at the Beacon School for Learners with Special Education Needs in Westridge on Wednesday.

The garden is the agricultural hub for the organisation, says programme coordinator Fran Fredricks.

Home gardeners who are participating in the NGO’s courses and some of the learners helped with the planting.

The organisation runs three 12-week home gardening workshops throughout the year and the final workshop of the year has already started. The organisation works throughout Cape Town and is currently running the course in Portlands and Westridge.

The course costs only R15 for the 12-week programme.
