A Strandfontein local is on her way to strut her stuff in Krugersdorp, representing the Western Cape at a national talent competition. Jessica Burns was selected as a finalist in the 2018 Summer Heat Talent Search and will compete as a finalist in December. “I was searching the web looking to get in touch with the Fashion Week [organisers] and then the Summer Heat website popped up. I read the information and applied to audition in Observatory and I was chosen as a finalist to represent the Western Cape,” says Burns.“It is a model and talent search competition. It is a very unique performing arts competition and a platform created for people who can sing, dance, act and model. Even if you can do only one of these, or all of them, it is open to talented people.” Burns auditioned in all four categories but was named a finalist to compete in three.“It was exciting and informative. We learnt about the business side of the performing arts,” she says. Talent scouts will also be at the competition with the main prize being a trip to Los Angeles to attend the IPop Convention. “I am looking forward to the boot camp, workshops, training and photoshoots. I want to meet the people and see the area,” she says. She started out as an extra and then pursued modelling in her early 20s.She has entered two talent shows already and has training in the performing arts. The competition will take place from Wednesday 12 to Monday 17 December. Burns needs to raise around R10 000 and has already started arranging fundraising events to contribute to the travel and accommodation costs. “This is the biggest opportunity I have received so far and I need support,” she says.Another fundraiser will be held at the Joseph Stone Auditorium on Friday 9 November. The show called Musik a la Carte will be held at the Joseph Stone Auditorium, featuring various local vocalists. Tickets cost R140 per person. Call 063 238 5652 for tickets.
