A local church will this week bring an international initiative to Mitchell’s Plain.

Hillsong South Africa will present their Sisterhood Conference on Saturday 3 March at 11 locations in the Western Cape and Gauteng.

Claire Tyler, Hillsong spokesperson, says the initiative has been running abroad for the past 30 years and originated at Hillsong Australia.

“Hillsong South Africa has been going since 2008 and the project has been running for around 10 years. It is for all women. We have a youth project for girls up to the age of 16, but this is for women of all ages,” she says.

The Sisterhood events will be held in Mitchell’s Plain, Century City, Somerset West, Gugulethu, Stellenbosch, Macassar, Centurion, Pretoria and Gauteng and this year also at Pollsmoor Prison on Saturday 3 March.

The Mitchell’s Plain event will take place at Westridge Secondary School at 08:30 for 09:00. Entry is free and open to all women in the area.

Sisterhood aims to gather, equip and mobilise women of all ages, backgrounds and cultures in the belief that together, women can make the world a better place.

“This is about women coming together and championing each other. They can expect an encouraging message and can come have their nails done, have massages and enjoy some snacks. It is about creating a community where women come together and share life together,” she says.

Each event also has a humanitarian aspect.

“As much as this is about women coming together and loving each other, there is also a humanitarian cause behind it,” she says.

This is in the lead-up to their larger conference that attracts around 10 000 women.

The annual Colour Conference is the biggest women’s conference for the church and will take place at GrandWest from Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 April, gathering women over two conferences.
