A local gang leader, Mark Parsons was shot dead in Lavender Hill last Tuesday.

The 37-year-old from Lavender Hill died after he was shot four times in the face and twice in the chest.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says police officers from Steenberg responded to a shooting at Fawley Court at about 19:30.

“According to a witness, the deceased had just dropped her off in Fawley Court and as she walked home, she heard gunshots. She then discovered that her boyfriend was shot while he was sitting in his car, a white VW Jetta.

“He was declared dead on the scene,” says Bartlett.

Bartlett adds that 12 9mm cartridges were found on the scene.

“The motive for the shooting is gang-related as there is tension between rival gangs in Lavender Hill. Steenberg police have opened a case of murder and no-one has been arrested yet.”

. In a separate incident, a teenager is lucky to be alive after several shots were fired at him.

“It is alleged that the 14-year-old victim was at a shop behind Selkirk Court when he was approached by three men. One of them had a firearm. Several shots were fired at him and he ran away.

“He collapsed in Muir Court and realised that he had sustained a gunshot wound on his left foot. He was transported to Victoria Hospital for medical treatment.

“The motive for the shooting is allegedly gang-related and the shooter is still at large.”

Anyone with information on the shooting should call Steenberg police on 021 702 9000 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
