Give info on gang shooting

Philippi police are calling on locals to come forward with information on a gang shooting in Hanover Park last weekend.

Three constables were reported to have been injured during the shoot-out with gangsters, after going to the area to investigate the murder of a gang member on the day.

According to reports the officers each had one gunshot wound to their body and are said to be recovering from their injuries after undergoing operations to remove the bullets. According to Captain Lance Goliath of Philippi Police Station, police launched a manhunt for the gunmen.

“On Monday 9 October shortly after 17:00, members attached to Operation Fiela 2 proceeded to a house in Vulcan Gardens, Woodlands where they arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the attack. The suspect is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted murder,” he says.

“On Monday night at about 20:00 a 23-year-old man was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The arrest came as a result of information received. A 9mm pistol, magazine and live ammunition were seized from the residence of the suspect in Lansport Road, Hanover Park,” he says.

“The serial number of the pistol was removed. The suspect is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ­ammunition.” V Anyone with information should call Constanble Lance Goliath on 021 690 1504 or Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
