Giving the gift of smiles to Nazareth House children

2017-12-05 06:00

Bobby and Lindy of Smile 90.4FM took up the challenge to raise funds to equip Nazareth House with 20 specialised hospital beds.

Cape Town’s iconic Nazareth House provides long-term residential care for children ranging from ages five to 18 years who are terminally ill and severely disabled. Each child relies on the support of Nazareth House as they not only have very special needs but also no other source of care and support and this is where Smile 90.4FM stepped in.

The campaign was aimed to raise a total of R252 000 to reach the target of 20 beds. Smile listeners were asked to assist by making a donation from as little as R20 for the children’s beds fundraising drive to the Smile Breakfast and within minutes donations from local businesses and individuals were rolling in. Beds will be handed over in the upcoming weeks, which will allow Nazareth House to accommodate children who need specialized intensive care in a loving environment.

Thanks to the support of the Smile 90.4FM listeners, not only was the target reached within 48 hours but a total of over R500 000 was raised.

“We cannot begin to show our gratitude for the Smile 90.4FM listeners, they reached into their pockets for such an amazing cause. Every day we are so grateful to have such compassionate listeners who are willing to step in and help whenever it is necessary,” says programme director Clive Ridgway.
