Gratitude from the truck driver

Imizamo Yethu businessman, Sheehama Onesmus (42) sends his gratitude to all those that helped him get back to his feet through making donations via a crowdfunding page last year. He made an appeal for help after he lost his truck overnight when it was stolen on Sunday 21 October (“Help raise funds for truck”, People’s Post, 06 November). It was parked on the street in front of his house on the night it disappeared and was later found stripped and burnt in Gugulethu.

Onesmus owns a delivery business working with local businesses and the truck was his only source of income for his family of five. And through the page, he was able to raise R67 000.“I would not have been able to do it on my own and for a moment, my world was shattered. I am happy to come back and let everyone know that I am back on my feet and my business is doing well since the beginning of January. Well the truck I have is not new, but it is in good condition and all I needed to restore my life,” Onesmus says.

He says with the raised amount he bought a body and an engine separately and found a local mechanic to put it together and later took it to a panel beater to give it a fresh look.

“It looks new and I love it. Thank You to everyone, I am glad you all came through for me in that difficult time. I wish you could do the same to others. May God bless each of them and replace what they have given to me.”
