GSCID work bearing fruit

2015-12-15 06:00

Groote Schuur Community Improvement District (GSCID) is happy that since their establishment their work is really bearing fruits.

GSCID reported on the work they have done at their annual general meeting.

They say their objectives are four fold – reducing crime and creating a safer public environment in the public space of the commercial area, keeping the streets, pavements and public spaces clean and tidy, and seeking to rehabilitate and provide jobs for the homeless and enhancing property value.

Through their visibility crime has decreased and more businesses are coming into the area.

Over the past five years the GSCID has seen a great change in many areas and they are glad the partnerships that have been formed over the years, have helped in achieving their goals.

Anthony Davies, CEO of the GSCID, says they work in partnership.

“We work with a lot of people and they have helped us achieve what we have achieved. We work together in making sure that the place is safer for everyone and that can be seen by people bringing their businesses into the area and we are seeing new developments,” he says.

They also work closely with the police and try to always be visible at the crime hot spots.

The GCID has 30 patrol staff, four cars and six mobile kiosks to make sure that they don’t leave anything to chance.

“We station the kiosk where there are problems and with us being there crime has dropped significantly.

“When our staff see a crime happening they are always there to assist. We are glad that where they are stationed there is no chance for crime to be committed and these are some of our successes.

“We are also looking forward to the new year, in which we will be doing various projects,” says Davies.
