Gun and drug arrests

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man for the posession of a firearm.

On Saturday 16 July at 03:40 Mitchell’s Plain police were busy with crime prevention duties at the corner of Park Avenue and Spine Road in Rocklands when officers saw three men. Officers stopped and searched them and found a Browning 6.35 pistol wrapped in black insulation tape without a magazine. The firearm was tested and found to belong to an owner in Bloemfontein.

The firearm was not reported stolen.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and is expected to soon appear in court.

In an unrelated matter, a second man was arrested for possession of heroin in Beacon Valley.

On Saturday 16 July at 23:00 members of the PC Reaction Unit were doing crime prevention duties in Beacon Valley when officers stopped and searched a 37-year-old man.

Police found 54 units of heroin in his possession. The suspect was arrested and is expected to soon appear in court.

Police are investigating a third incident that took place on Saturday 16 July in Beacon Valley.

Police were on patrol when officers saw a group of people standing in Netball Crescent at 00:59.

When officers approached the group to investigate they saw cartridges and projectiles lying in the road.

Officers were informed that three victims were rushed to hospital.

The victims are known as gang members.
