Guns, magazines and bullets recovered

Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a 40-year-old man on Wednesday 8 January at about 19:30 when officers were busy with crime prevention patrols in Klipspringer Street, Beacon Valley.

The officers reacted to a tip-off about a firearm being kept at a house on Wemmershoek Street, Tafelsig.

When police officers searched the property, they found a 9mm Star firearm with a magazine loaded with eight live rounds, another Star 9mm firearm with magazine loaded with five live rounds and another Star 9mm magazine loaded with seven rounds.

Police also found a 2.2 magazine loaded with six live rounds, two boxes of 2.2 live rounds totalling 75 rounds, two boxes of 7.65 live rounds totalling 90 live rounds, a packet containing five 7.65 live rounds, two empty magazines and a brown holster.

The suspect was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
