Mitchell’s Plain residents will have the opportunity to raise their opinions on the spatial development frameworks (SDFs) and development priorities for the area. The Mitchell’s Plain, Khayelitsha and Greater Blue Downs planning district is one of eight districts identified by the City for this initiative. The meetings seek to explain the process in preparing the SDFs; how the SDFs affect local developments and how residents can contribute to identify the challenges, needs, and priorities insofar as it relates to planning on a local area level, and be given an opportunity to do so. The Mitchell’s Plain meeting will take place on Thursday 14 November from 19:00 to 20:30 at the Rocklands civic centre. The meetings seek to update SDFs with the latest information about the state of the population, their employment levels and income; the state of the urban and natural environment and heritage; state of development; the supply of and demand for housing; local economy; property market; and current services and infrastructure. All of this information is included in a Baseline and Analysis Report (BaAR) for each district, inclusive of the challenges, needs and opportunities on a local planning level. The BaAR documents are currently available on the City’s website and the public is requested to provide their comments on or before the closing date of Friday 31 January.
