Oaklands High School matriculants hosted a successful Valentine’s Day themed fundraiser last week, with money raised going toward their matric ball in April.

The matriculants organised a market and talent day on Friday to help with the costs for their matric ball taking place at the Capetonian Hotel on Saturday 8 April.

The talent show included performances by singers, dancers and poetry readings, as well as a modelling show.

Stalls sold food and drinks, there was a cover charge for casual wear and the talent show was judged by, among others, Expresso TV show presenter Katlego Maboe.

“The money we make will go towards reducing the costs for the matric ball. This is the only fund­raiser we are doing before the matric ball and we will have another one after for the school,” says headboy Tembalethu Seyisi.

The school has 174 matriculants this year.

School principal Reza Patel also supported the event and left the organising to the matriculants.

Patel says the learners also wrote a maths test ahead of the event that ran from 09:30 to noon.
