The House of Hope is a non-profit organisation in Manenberg which recently received a much needed boost from donations.

The organisation gives hope to community members facing everyday challenges, such as children going hungry, abused children, clothing needs and sanitary issues.

The House of Hope was the brainchild of Anthea Jones. Then Sylvanna Manus and her husband worked on it further.

“It became more of a desire to myself and my husband to start off the House of Hope with a House of Hope Day and we welcomed all sponsors and people to visit the House of Hope and pledge their gifts,” Manus says.

Manus says after mentioning their project at her workplace, donations came flowing in, which “really warmed my heart”.

“I am employed at Old Mutual and simply created awareness within my department,” she says. “I just encouraged my colleagues to come and pledge and plant a seed into a child’s life with a toiletry item, food item, clothing or shoes or any other donation. And then one day my colleague told me that she wanted to host her daughter’s second birthday party at the House of Hope,” Manus beams.

They will be hosting the party on Saturday.

“Our department will be making a difference in the lives of these children and we are really looking forward to it. We want the community to be aware of the needs of our children in the community. We want people to know there is hope for and hope in Manenberg.”

Manus explains the centre does not have a stable building yet but they are looking for sponsorships for investments to grow the centre. V If you would like to get involved with the House of Hope call Sylvanna Manus on 021 533 0833.
