Help for communicators

2018-06-26 06:00

Claremont-based Toastmasters Cape Communicators, a non-profit organisation, invites young communicators to take advantage of the platform to master public speaking.

Nomawethu Tshona, spokesperson, says the club teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. She says the world needs leaders in all aspects of life.

“Leaders head families, coach teams, run businesses and mentor others. These leaders must not only accomplish, they must communicate. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters programme.”

Tshona says they have professionals – IT technicians and secretaries, HR professionals, bank managers and more.

She says she is testimony to the fact that being among people with the same passion and longing to become better can change your life for the better. “For the longest time I wanted to become a motivational speaker and a master of ceremonies, but I knew I needed a bit of a push from an accredited institution. However, I did not know where to start until I found Toastmasters. I went to check it out and I have not looked back. The benefits are amazing – I can get training for both while my work life continues uninterrupted.”

The organisation has 30 branches around Cape Town and those interested to join, can apply.
