Claremont Improvement District Company (CIDC) recently added another mobile kiosk in their area to help fight crime.

The mobile kiosk is part of the Improvement District’s visible policing strategy. The kiosk is also deployed at special events like rugby, cricket and marathons in Claremont.

The kiosk will be manned mostly by a CIDC officer and general information can be obtained from the officers on duty who are directly linked to the CIDC Control Room via a two-way radio.

The CIDC has three mobile kiosks and they are currently deployed in Cavendish Street, Station Subway, and Campground and Main Road.

CIDC executive manager Abdul Kerbelker says the kiosks have proven to be a valuable asset in crime prevention. “Visibility of these kiosks make a big difference in crime hotspot areas. The kiosks are deployed in crime hotspot areas and is moved depending on the need,” he says.

Kerbelker says crime in the area differs from week to week and from incident to incident. Previously, Kerbelker said with Claremont attracting a lot of people they are putting all measure in place to ensure they are able to deal with the footprint.

The CIDC in partnership with Claremont police, Law Enforcement and Metro Police, monitor and manage crime in the CIDC based on joint intelligence and form part of an effective Sector Policing strategy in Claremont.

“Depending on the information received in the weekly meeting with the police and CIDC incidents reported, a collective decision will be made where the kiosks will be deployed. The kiosk is a valuable part of the arsenal CIDC deploy daily to make Claremont a better place for all,” he says.V To report an incident or request help call toll free number 0800 200 597.
