Every surfer in the world – no matter their skill or privilege – dreams of going to Jeffreys Bay.“We are fortunate to have this wave down the road from us, but many still don’t have the means to go this relatively short distance,” says Nigel Savel, founder of the 9Miles project. You are still able to help the 9Miles Project give a life-changing experience to their learners this winter. The project is requesting financial sponsorship towards their learners’ Jeffreys Bay Development Camp and Tour. The tour is offered annually to the new intake of learners, along with leaders, to reward them for the hard work and discipline they have put in over the past year. It includes visiting many interesting cultural, natural and historical sites along the Garden Route, a Surf Training Camp in St Francis Bay, and the 9Miles Mentorship or Life Skills Program called Shaping Soul Surfers. It will take place from Wednesday 6 to Sunday 17 July to coincide with the World Surf League sanctioned event, the J’Bay Open, allowing learners the opportunity to interact with the top professionals and the international surfing community.“We look forward to making this tour as special as possible for them,” says Savel. “We would like to acknowledge the dedication shown by sending 15 learners, along with five facility coaches, on the tour. The additional funding requested from partners is R30 900 and the cost per person is R2060.” V For more information on how to sponsor a child or donate to the cause, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 082 042 7701.
