A determined hip-hop dancer from Parkwood, Bradley Smith dreams big as he prepares to showcase his talent in the United States of America.

The 19-year-old will be participating in the USA Hip-Hop Dance Championships taking place in Arizona from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 August.

Bradley along with his family have been busy trying to raise funds to cover costs, and as his father, Lionel Smith is a local gospel singer working in collaboration with Brenda Jacobs, they are organising a fundraising event that will comprise different spiritual performances. Bradley promises a stunning event full of fun and fresh talent.

It will be held at Upper Hall in Steenberg on Saturday 6 July. They appeal to the public to support the cause. Bradley has been dancing for years and has a dream of opening a dance academy in his community.

“I would like to see talent grow and this could be my breakthrough, I am positive about this competition,” Bradley says.

He is part of a local group called Proverbs 21 which performs at local competitions and is giving back through teaching dance at Fairmount High School. Lionel is a pensioner and supports a family of eight hence he needs help to fund Bradley’s trip. As part of treating the guests and showing appreciation to supporters, Lionel says he and Jacobs will officially launch their newly found group It’s Not About Us (INAU) which he says is aimed at inspiring youth. He says they plan to identify young talent to be their two sopranos and a tenor.
