Help police find rape suspect

Pinelands police are appealing for assistance in identifying and locating a rape suspect. The suspect allegedly raped and robbed a 22-year-old woman who was walking from the Maitland Railway Station near the graveyard.

The incident occurred near the bushes behind Oude Molene College in Jan Smuts Drive on Wednesday 26 April last year at about 09:30.

According to the police report, the suspect was walking with the woman when he stopped her and suddenly forced himself on her before robbing her of her handbag and money.

The suspect is described as a tall, dark African man with a scar under his right eye and between the ages of 40 and 45.

Police urge anyone with information to contact the Cape Town Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on 082 334 7523, or Detective Andiswa Binase-Sarr on 021 467 6052 or 082 522 1084, or visit the Pinelands police crime office or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
