A car accident claimed the life of a 57-year-old woman in Athlone Industria on Wednesday morning.

Philippi police spokesperson Captain Lance Goliath calls on road users to drive with extra caution, especially in bad weather.

“Police attended to an accident scene on the bridge of Jakes Gerwel Drive at Athlone Industria where a 57-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries and both drivers of the two vehicles involved (a Quantum minibus taxi and a Toyota Conquest) were taken to hospital for medical treatment. Their conditions are serious but stable,” says Goliath.

Brigadier Mmagauta Letsoalo, deputy cluster commander of Mitchell’s Plain policing cluster, visited the scene and urged motorists and pedestrians to take extra caution when making use of the roads, especially in bad weather conditions.

“Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and urge anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward with information,” says Goliath. V Call Philippi Police Station on 021 690 1504 or Crime Stop on 0860 10 111.
