Heritage Day fair

Eden Safety and Security Residents’ Association (ESS) has organised a Heritage Day celebration to recognise the diverse cultures in their community.

The event will be held at Wynberg High School on Monday 24 September from 10:00 to 16:00.

Like many celebrations on the day, there will be a braai and residents are promised a day of fun.

They are encouraged to come along with their children as there will be various activities including soccer, board games and bumper cars to be enjoyed by the little ones.

Yumna Abrahams, secretary of ESS, says: “We appeal to the public for donations or sponsorship. This is an important public holiday in South Africa which recognises different aspects of South African culture and encourages South Africans across the spectrum to celebrate their cultural heritage, the diversity of their beliefs and different traditions. We will be hosting a fundraiser where we call on the youth, the elderly, business owners and all residents to unite around a fire and fly our flag. As the late great Nelson Mandela said, we can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.”

Abrahams says they are prepared to welcome over 200 people.

As part of giving back, they have invited the elderly from the local old age home to join in on the day. She says they have various giveaways to spoil their guests.

Interested residents are welcome to host a non-food stall and will be charged a “reasonable” fee.
