Hijacking investigated

Athlone police are investigating a hijacking that took place in Athlone on Wednesday.

According to Athlone police spokesperson, Sergeant Zita Norman, a 38-year-old man was at his home in Carrington Avenue when two unknown men approached him and threatened him with a firearm.

“They then instructed him to get out of his 2015 white Toyota Quantum and robbed him of his money (amount undisclosed). At this stage they got into the vehicle and drove away,” says Norman.

She adds that no shots were fired and no injuries were sustained. The vehicle is said to be valued at R330 000.V Anyone with information relating to this incident can call the Athlone Police Station on 021 697 9238 or 021 697 9239.
