A very significant part of the story of the “march” to Fish Hoek by a “group of Masiphumelele residents” (which was funded by a man from Khayelitsha) is the fact that it took Simon Pasiya four hours to persuade only 15 adults and 10 children to walk to Fish Hoek in the midday sun (“Petition against housing”, People’s Post, 10 October).

Their demands for investigations into the affairs of Lutz van Dijk and me were rejected by councillor Felicity Purchase. It is anticipated that there are more than 40 000 people in Masi. This entire fiasco was a huge victory for Van Dijk and for me.

The desperate need for housing was proved to be supported by all but 15 people who did not know who I was when I arrived at the civic centre to listen to their demands. When I clapped, they clapped.
