Hold the politicians accountable

2019-04-02 06:00

I have been driving around Cape Town recently and I have noticed all the bright posters filling up our street poles.

Then I realise, it’s that time of the year again. The time we see all the faces that we only hear about, the time for elections. I am looking forward to all the changes that will come with electing new politicians. I love to hear the promises, to look at what they do and see if anything has been delivered. But now is also the time for many protests, unrest and people standing up to voice their concerns about service delivery or lack thereof over the last five years. I would like for people not to wait that long and to keep our politicians accountable, no matter who is elected.

Come Wednesday 8 May, I will be casting my vote. I will be making sure that I have a reason to hold someone accountable and that I exercise my democratic right that others had died for.
