A 44-year-old woman from Vrygrond was arrested after police officers deployed at Operation Combat reacted to information received regarding the possible storage of firearms and narcotics.

Muizenberg police spokesperson Captain Stephen Knapp says at about 20:45 on Tuesday 13 September the police officers approached a residence in Vuyo Road.

“After a thorough search of the premises, they located two firearms – one a 9mm star pistol and the other a .45 Tanfoglio pistol, 17 rounds of ammunition and 140 packets of tik,” he says.

“The firearms and narcotics were inside a Wendy house situated at the front of the residence.”

The 44-year-old owner of the house was arrested on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and dealing in narcotics, says Knapp.

Colonel Ishmail Daniels, the Muizenberg police station commander, was extremely pleased with the arrest.

“We remain committed to the removal of illegal/prohibited firearms in the community. It is only with the help of the community that we can weed out the bad elements that continue to cause heartache in our communities,” he says.

Muizenberg police encourage the community to continue to provide information that leads to these successes.
