About 100 nominations have already been received, says Hylton Mitchell, chairperson of the NHW Awards steering committee.

Capetonians have just over two weeks left to nominate their local neighbourhood watch or favourite watch members in the following categories:

. NHW Member of the Year

. NHW of the Year

. Above and Beyond

. Safe City

. Innovation

. Partnership Working

. Community Cohesion

Nominations close on 11 November.

Seven humorous awards will also be handed out at the awards ceremony on 25 November, including the 007 Award, Mr Gadget, Night Rider, Thelma and Louise, Rocky, Starsky & Hush and the A-Team (a group award).

The NHW Awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work and dedication that goes into providing a vital community service that often goes unrewarded.

It is held in conjunction with the City of Cape Town’s safety and security directorate and its partners, including the Department of Community Safety. People’s Post is the media partner.

The awards will be judged by a committee that comprises a mix of stakeholders with a keen understanding of the criteria in awarding an official NHW Award.V To nominate someone or for more information visit www.nhwawards.co.za.
