A dispute in Hout Bay resulted in a pile of tyres and timber to be set alight close to Fish on the Rocks in Harbour Road, Hout Bay, early this morning (Tuesday 30 July).

The City's Fire and Rescue Services was called in and the team quickly doused the fire and cleared the scene.

Traffic flow was back to normal within 30 minutes.

According to information received, residents were unhappy about an alleged tender being awarded to a construction company who they feel do not employ locals.

Although it could not be confirmed from which construction company was involved, Toby Adams of the Hout Bay community policing forum (CPF) could confirm that the dispute had been resolved and that an understanding had been reached between the two parties.

At present, roads surrounding the area are unaffected by this morning’s incident.
