Hundreds of fines issued to offenders

2018-07-10 06:01

A zero tolerance Law Enforcement operation was recently carried out in the Cape Town CBD.

The foot and vehicle patrols, which took place between 16:00 and midnight, saw over 200 fines issued for a range of traffic violations.

The violations including unlicensed vehicles; parking in disabled bays or loading bays or on a red or yellow line; unlicensed drivers and spitting in public.

A total of 249 fines were issued with a value of over R136 700.

Ward councillor Dave Bryant says: “The City’s Law Enforcement officers in ward 115 are providing an invaluable service in ensuring ongoing compliance with bylaws.

“Our officers will continue to assist the police to maintain public order with our small but hardworking teams on the ground.

Bryant adds that one particularly disturbing statistic is that of the “16 unlicensed drivers identified during one evening and the 200 unlicensed vehicles on our roads”.
