With the help of other people, a Seawinds infant who is struggling to breathe, will soon have a better life after getting an operation.

Kyle Cupido, father of Arabella Grace, a 10-month-old baby girl, is overwhelmed by the support his family received from people when they held a benefit concert for their daughter to raise money for her operation.

They needed R24 000 for the surgery.

Arabella will be going for an operation for her adenoids and to insert grommets.

She has granuloma and recurrent tonsillitis and enlarged adenoids that don’t allow her to sleep. At times she even suffocates, which leaves her parents terrified.

A specialist told them she needed an operation as the bone in her nose was too flat, making it difficult for her to breathe.

“It all started when she was four months old. We were a little worried about it but we thought it was teething and people assured us that ‘it is teething; it will finish’. We saw that it wasn’t getting better. We had to go to the doctors and we were told of her conditions,” says Cupido.

“When she was young she didn’t know how to breathe through her mouth so me and my wife had to take turns to watch her and help her at night. It was even difficult for her to sleep.

“We are happy that people opened their heart and they really wanted to help. There are a lot of other people struggling out there.

“After we managed to pull off an event and got a huge response, we decided to start the Arabella Grace Foundation,” says Cupido.

The foundation will have fundraising events to help other children who are struggling.

“We noticed that a lot of people don’t talk about their problems because they don’t know where to turn to and they are not sure if people will help.

“My child will be going for the operation and we want to help other people as well. It doesn’t have to be a medical condition but we want to use the money raised by the foundation to change other people’s lives.”

They will be going back to the doctor soon.

“We hope this operation will be a lasting solution to her problem. As soon as we are done with this we will start working on the foundation,” he says.
