Internet ‘a human right’

2019-02-12 06:00

Thanks to a partnership between organisations and businesses, facilitated by the Plein Chamber of Commerce, Free WIFI access has been made available in the Town Centre.

This was revealed at the second Re-Imagining Mitchell’s Plain Summit held in Lentegeur at the weekend (read more on page 6).

Sean Achim, CEO and chairman of the Plein Chamber of Commerce says the access is available in the entirety of the Town Centre.

“The internet is available from the Day Hospital, right up to the Hazeldene taxi rank. We are hoping to see this being done in quite a few other places as well,” he said.

“Internet access is a human right. We are not going to fight or argue about it and that is why this was done.”

The initiative also saw stakeholders trained to be able to do the work in installing and being a part of the project, Achim said.

The initiative was made possible throught local service providers and Cell C among other partners.
