Blood, sweat and tears. That’s what every member of the Bridgetown Theatre Company put in during their preparation for this year’s High School Jam competition taking place at Grand Arena at GrandWest on Saturday 17 August.

The theatre company has been teaching dance, drama and music since 2018.

Since its opening, they have discovered talent from Bridgetown High School, Athlone School for the Blind, Athlone High School and Peak View High School (BAAP), among others.

The competition, which starts at 12:30, has different categories for creatives to compete in. This year’s winner will take home R 50 000 towards the performing arts and school music culture department.

It allows learners to showcase their talents and to be seen by people who could afford them opportunities.

According to a statement by Bridgetown Theatre Company, it is “unfair that these students – although talented – be denied this opportunity because performing arts are not offered at their schools due to lack of funds and infrastructure.”V For more information, go to the Bridgetown Theatre Company Facebook page or call Zelda Hintsa on 082 536 3651.
