Job and study opportunities for youth

2018-06-05 06:01

The Youth Unemployment Prevention Project (Yupp) will be hosting a Job Seekers and Further Study Opportunities Seminar in Athlone next week.

The programme aims to assist youth between the ages of 18 and 24 with finding employment, further study opportunities and study funding.

The project has helped thousands of youth access education, training and employment opportunities since 2009. Guest speakers to attend this year’s event include former minister of finance Trevor Manuel.

“The goal of the seminar is to provide youth with information about the various opportunities available to them, make them aware of how to apply, and to assist all youth seeking opportunities with ongoing support until they are placed,” says Faiez Dollie from Yupp.

“Entry-level employment opportunities include sales consultants, cashiers, retail assistants, drivers, logistics staff, admin assistants, frontline officers and general workers.”

Youth will also be able to apply for courses offered by UWC, CPUT, Unisa and False Bay College, which still have spaces for their second-semester courses starting in July and third-trimester courses starting in September. Funding is also available for these courses.

“Youth seeking employment and further study opportunities are therefore encouraged to attend the seminar. The event is free of charge and parents and guardians are also encouraged to attend,” adds Dollie.

The seminar takes place on Wednesday 13 June at the Dulcie September Civic Centre, previously known as Athlone Civic Centre, on the corner of Klipfontein Road and Jan Smuts Avenue in Athlone.

Registration starts at 09:30 sharp. Bring your CV and certified copies of your ID and academic qualifications.

V You can also preregister by sending a WhatsApp or SMS with your name, surname and contact details to 079 622 0934.
