Claremont police are investigating the death of Nezaam Isaacs (42) who was killed in an alleged hit and run accident on Tuesday morning.

Cape Town traffic services spokesman, Richard Coleman confirmed Isaacs’ identity.

Isaacs was jogging on the side of the Belvedere Road when an silver VW Golf allegedly hit him and sped off leaving him for dead. The driver is still on the run, says Claremont police spokesman, Sergeant Lindile Dubeni.

Dubeni says the accident happened at around 06:00.

“The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and is yet to be arrested. A culpable homicide case has been registered and any person with information regarding the incident is kindly requested to contact Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Benn on 082 469 2525.”

Isaacs died on the scene.

Coleman says traffic services have handed over the case to the police for further investigation after the road was closed for more than an hour.

“We send our condolences to family and friends,” Coleman says.
