Kenfac Phillies beat Westridge Yankees in thrilling encounter

Carla Swanepoel secured a thrilling victory for the young Kenfac Phillies outfit against Westridge Yankees in a Cape Town Softball Association super league match at City Park on Saturday.

With the scores tied at 4-4, Swanepoel’s big hit to left field secured the victory for the Phillies over the Mitchell’s Plain team.

Newly promoted Lavender Hill lost by a single run to the Falcons in Pinelands.

This is the second week that the Hill lost by one run, but it is also notable that these losses are against the two top teams in the super league.

At Turfhall, Tantasport and Glenthorn A’s secured easy wins over St Martins (10-0) and VOB (7-0) respectively.

The men took to the diamonds in daylight on Sunday for the first time since unification.

The devastating vandalism at Turfhall Stadium in recent months has resulted in the men not having a suitable floodlit venue for them to play evening matches.

In the main game of the day, Westridge Yankees defeated the newly promoted Khayelitsha Eagles 11-2.

Khayelitsha Eagles coach Moses Molaba is confident that his team will cope in the top league this season.

“I am building the team to be able to compete and know that one day we will be tops,” says Molaba.
