As the saying goes, “one man’s loss is another man’s gain”.

Well, this sentiment became a reality for two families who in the midst of their respective situations, both had a satisfactory outcome on Saturday 15 September when a kennel was donated to a needy family by Sharon Bing from Tokai.

It was heartbreaking for Bing when her beloved dog passed away. All she had left of her late furry friend was a kennel to remind her of the good times with her dog.

But eventually she realised that the kennel deserved a new life and she wanted to give it to a deserving dog owner.

“I asked [a lady] from Dancers Love Dogs if she knew anyone who needed a big kennel. I am so happy it went where it was needed.”

Through social media, she was hooked up with Catherine Maruza from Delft who was in the process of adopting a puppy for her daughter.

“We are very glad to have a shelter for my puppy. My daughter is more than happy. She loves animals a lot – she used to say ‘Mom, let us adopt a cat if you say a dog is going to be too big for our house’,” Maruza says, explaining how she ended up needing a kennel.

She says after a long time of trying to ignore her daughter’s wish she gave in and went to adopt a puppy.

Luckily, she met the right people and was assisted in due time and there are no longer any concerns about sharing their small house with a dog.
