Kensington CPF welcomes swift arrest

2019-04-30 06:01

The Kensington Community Policing Forum (CPF) welcomes the success of crime prevention patrols in Factreton in the early hours of last Thursday.

Kensington CPF chairperson Erika Isaacs says police from Kensington Police Station were patrolling Albacore Street when their attention was drawn to three suspicious men on foot.

Isaacs says when police approached the suspects for further investigation, the suspects started running while one suspect produced a firearm and pointed it at the pursuing police officers, which resulted in one of the police officers reacting and discharging his firearm in self-defence.

The suspect, who was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was arrested. However, the two accomplices who were with him managed to evade arrest.

“Kensington police are eager to protect the community from criminals. The CPF applauds the successful arrest and commend the Kensington police,” says Isaacs.

Isaacs welcomed the CPF’s support of all efforts being made to rid the Kensington and Factreton area from the grips of the gangsterism it is plagued by.

“We ask you to stop this senseless violence. We are tired of being held hostage by these unnecessary shootings. Our children, elderly and residents want to live in a safe environment.

“To our residents, thank you for continuing to work with the police and the CPF. Unity is a tool we can use to rid our community of this threat and stand as a united community.”
