Suspects linked to an attempted kidnapping and a spate of robberies were arrested in Manenberg on Tuesday 21 June.

Three men, aged 19 to 28, were arrested for robbery and kidnapping.

According to Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett the three men were arrested after an intensive investigation by Detective Constable Darryl Van Noie.

The case was reported by a 28-year-old female victim who was robbed and the suspects attempted to kidnap her while on her way to take public transport, in the Vanguard Estate area.

“She managed to fight them off and they fled the scene with her personal belongings. Detective Constable Van Noie received the case and found that the description of the vehicle has already been reported as a vehicle used in committing robberies.

He collected information and made enquiries and finally got a breakthrough the same day. He received information that the vehicle, fitting the description, was parked at an address in Manenberg,” confirms Bennett.

Bennett says Van Noie then found the vehicle after following up information which matched the description given in all of the other incidents.

Van Noie also found the victim’s possessions in the vehicle, which included her cellphone.

“He was thorough with is investigation and found that the 28-year-old was wanted for several other cases including carjacking and he was out on bail for a case relating to the illegal possession of firearm. He is also wanted on a theft of a motor vehicle case in Mitchell’s Plain and wanted for armed robbery on a Manenberg case,” adds Bennett.

The suspects were arrested and will be charged with these kidnapping and robbery.

Bennett urges anyone who has experienced any incidents similar to these crimes to contact Van Noie on 021 699 9400 to assist him with completing his investigation and build a strong case.
