Members of the Factreton South Neighbourhood Watch embarked on a clean-up of the community campaign on Saturday 30 March.

The clean-up was aimed at teaching children in the community the importance of taking care of the environment.

The neighbourhood watch members who were present at the clean-up were all pensioners.“The youth does not want to take part in these kind of initiatives, they would rather sit in parks and do nothing productive,” neighbourhood watch member Wilhemiena Bruintjies said.

She said they are planning to have more of these gatherings in the future which will include more children, but they will have to plan it properly to make sure that there would be enough food for the children.

“After the event, we give kids sandwiches and a sweet treat to thank them for their time. We are thinking of having more events in future and a soup kitchen in June. That will not be possible if we do not get sponsors,” Bruintjies further said. She said the money used to buy food parcels came from their own pockets and they do not get donations from anywhere.

“It would be nice if we can get some donations to make sure that these kids all get something to enjoy.”V For more information or to donate to the next project call Wilhemiena Bruintjies on 073 588 0526.
