Two local schools were recently the recipients of a quarterly campaign aimed at dressing up less fortunate school children in good school clothes.

Woodville Primary School in Woodlands and Siyangisa Primary School in Gugulethu received the donation through the Now Build Relationships (NBR) campaign, sponsored by GrandWest. The ethos is that there is value in being properly dressed and doing so inspires confidence in learners who have been bullied, victimised and ostracised due to their sometimes unfavourable social status. The school children, selected by the principal, received a goodie bag containing a full set of school clothes and are encouraged to work hard at school.

The handover at the two schools took place on Thursday 28 February.

Christine Jacobs of the NBR says: “This is our 10th year of dressing school children, but the first year we have a corporate sponsor in GrandWest that has come alongside us to help disadvantaged children. Thanks to them we are able to dress so many more children in 2019.”

Melaney Simonhoff, GrandWest’s Socio-Economic Development Officer says they are pleased to be part of the initiative. “GrandWest is very pleased to be involved with this inspiring campaign. We see great value in it, as children feel better when they look better and are able to take on their education with more confidence.”
