The Mother City is set to shine on National Women’s Day (Friday 9 August) when thousands of runners and walkers take on the Totalsports Women’s Race in support of PinkDrive.

“Unlike the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban (taking place on the same day), the Totalsports Women’s Race Cape Town does not feature a fast flat route,” says general manager of road running at Stillwater Sports, Agne du Plessis.

Du Plessis adds the route in Cape Town has a few hills which could shelve ideas of running personal best times, but that should not deter runners from taking in the beauty of the city.

“Both the 5km and 10km races will start and finish in front of the Cape Town City Hall. Other iconic landmarks to look out for on route will include: the Company Gardens, South African National Gallery, South African Jewish Museum and District Six to mention just a few. Runners will be in awe of the splendour of the Mother City,” continues du Plessis.

“The calming setting of the Company Gardens, serenity of the harbour and stunning Table Bay views at the top of District Six will add a special ambiance to this much-anticipated Women’s Day celebration. Entrants can look forward to a fantastic day out with family and friends. This year we’d like to share the message that women are #StrongerTogether. Join us as we run in support of PinkDrive.”

For the first time since the event’s inception in 2001, South Africa’s largest Women’s Day Celebration, the Totalsports Women’s Race will be hosted on one day across three major cities: Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
