Larger CCTV reach

Three communities are set to receive a safety boost when a CCTV camera network in the South Peninsula is expanded.

Ward 69 councillor Felicity Purchase has directed R100 000 of her ward allocation budget to the installation of two cameras, which will form part of the network across wards 61, 64 and 69.

The network has been running for many years, explains Purchase, with neighbourhood watches contributing with their own cameras and the feeds being monitored in a control room.

The addition of another two cameras is part of a safety and security plan for the South Peninsula, Purchase adds.

The cameras are used for crime prevention and to collect evidence in police cases.

Eddie Andrews, Mayco member (South), says the City of Cape Town has already funded two cameras previously.

The new cameras, which are expected to be installed by early next year, will benefit Ocean View, Masiphumelele and Fish Hoek.
