Last say on Open Streets

2016-03-22 06:00

The final community engagement meeting is to be held soon before the highly anticipated Open Streets event hits Mitchell’s Plain in April.

Organisers of the day will host the final community engagement at the Lentegeur Civic Centre tomorrow at 19:00.

This will be a platform for residents to have their say on plans for the first Open Streets event in the area – set to be held on Sunday 3 April in Merrydale Avenue from noon to 17:00.

One taxi association has already made plans for the vehicle-free event and says in a notice: “Apologies to all commuters of Hazeldene Shuttle Services Taxi Association.

“As you are all aware, Open Streets will be taking place on Sunday 3 April, blocking off Merrydale Avenue from Westpoort Drive to Oxford Street, which will affect all commuters travelling from Kimberley Way, Montagu Way, Durban Way, Tulbach Road and Merrydale Avenue, making it inconvenient for commuters to reach their destination.

“We have, however, sourced an alternative route to satisfy the needs of commuters and trust this will alleviate the inconvenience and your concerns.”
