The women’s Super League of the Cape Town Softball Association dished up some exciting encounters in a double-header weekend at the Turfhall Softball Stadium in Athlone.

Kenfac Phillies and Lavender Hill came up trumps with 100% returns.

On Saturday 30 November, Phillies defeated Tantasport 10-7 with Carla Swanepoel (3/4) again the star batter for Phillies, including two doubles.

Nawaal Weitz topped the batting for Tanta with a solid (3/4) average.

Top of the table, Lavender Hill, stopped Glenthorn A’s in their tracks with an easy 6-1 victory.

On Sunday 1 December, Lavender Hill continued their winning ways with a 7-1 win over luckless Tantasport.

Both teams recorded six hits, but Tanta was once again let down by some sloppy fielding committing six errors.

Weitz (2/3) again led the offense for Tanta with Erin Peters, also (2/3), putting in a solid batting performance for Lavender Hill.

Phillies continued with their good fortune on Sunday when new head coach, Steven Rodkin, steered them to a surprise 10-4 victory over Westridge Yankees.

Ester van den Heever performed superbly on the pitcher’s plate for Phillies, giving up only two scattered singles against a normally solid Yankees offense. Carla Swanepoel (3/4) was the star of the Phillies batting once again. Her hits included two triples. She was closely followed by Alex Fortune (2-3), which included a double.

In a tightly contested game, Falcons edged out Glenthorn A’s 7-6 on Sunday.

Falcons came out with all cylinders firing when the first two batters, Bettina Phillips and Kelly Julie, cleared the boundary cones. A’s were not going to be outdone and took 14 hits off the young Amy Minnies.

It was in the fifth inning that A’s took a 6-4 lead thanks to a sterling (3/3) batting performance from Zulpha Stellenboom.

With the score tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the last innings, it was Sarah Broker’s safe hit that scored Amy Minnies for all the spoils.

Falcons face a rejuvenated Phillies in the late game (18:00) on Saturday 7 December at Turfhall. Tantasport play Westridge Yankees in the early game at 14:00 with Lavender Hill facing newcomers, Heideveld Yankees, at 16:00.
