An 82-year-old woman was hit by a stray bullet in Lavender Hill on Tuesday (18 April).

According to a report from Steenberg police, the woman was in her home in Sheperd Court at 11:45 when a stray bullet hit her in the chest.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer John Bartlett says the bullet scraped her chest but did not penetrate.
“The victim was transported to Retreat Day Hospital for medical treatment and again released.”

He says 10 cartridges were found on the scene and the shooting is a result of a sudden flare up in gang activity in Lavender Hill.

“Steenberg police have opened a case of attempted murder and the investigation continues. No arrests have been made as yet.”
