A 48-year-old man from Stone Court, Lavender Hill, has died after being shot in the head. The man was shot on Wednesday 12 October, but died in hospital later.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says: “The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the head with the exit wound in front. It is alleged that two suspects came into the court and fired several shots at the victim and his two friends. The victim ran up the stairs where he collapsed. No other person sustained injuries.

“Twenty-one cartridges and one projectile were found on the scene. Paramedics treated the victim and transported him to Groote Schuur Hospital. The motive for the shooting is allegedly gang-related,” he says.

A 22-year-old man was arrested for the murder and appeared at the Wynberg Magistrate’ Court yesterday (Monday).
