Twenty-nine learners from Cafda School of Skills in Retreat attended a youth leadership programme at Princess Vlei Eco Centre from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 November.

At the end of the programme all the learners were awarded certificates by the organisers from the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police Department.

According to a statement, the camp aimed to create awareness about the consequences of crime and how it affects current and future life choices, as well as being an effective leader.

There were different themes used for various activities which learners participated in.

Activities varied from effective listening skills, personal hygiene and teenage pregnancy.

Mayco member for safety, security and social services JP Smith lauded the learners and staff for their hard work.

“Many of the young people come from very challenging situations and the camps don’t only provide a break from their daily grind, but it also challenges them to look to the future and think differently about their relationships and interactions with law enforcement. I am immensely proud of them, but also of our dedicated staff who make these camps happen,” said Smith.
