Learners at HJ Kroneberg Primary in Kensington are reaching out to the world from their new mobile hot spot library.

Their new connectedness is thanks to Sanlam Private Wealth that recognised the growing need for school learners to have access to technology to empower their learning.

On Wednesday last week (20 July) the school celebrated the donation of the new facility at the school that is fully equipped with computers and free WiFi.

Principal Yul Cupido was overjoyed with the donation pointing out that the technology will assist the school with their mission to empower learners.

“We have learners from diverse backgrounds. There are learners from across Africa from as far afield as Rwanda, Burundi and Nigeria and surrounding communities of Du Noon and Khayelitsha, but our aim is to empower each of them to their full positive potential,” he says.

“We believe in offering a diverse, balanced curriculum in order to develop the learner. There is also the need to foster learner, educator and parental empowerment and providing a stimulating environment.”

This new facility will allow learners to effectively use the internet to assist with research, says Cupido.

Ainsley Moos, operations manager in the office of the group chief executive of Sanlam, explains that he was involved at the school as a partner in the Partners4Possibility project for the past two years.

“I have been working with the principal for the past two years and know the needs to empower the learners.

“I would like to thank Sanlam Private Wealth for coming on board to help the school. We know that it is going to impact the community beyond the boundaries of the school,” he says.

Sanlam Private Wealth CEO, Daniël Kriel, also stressed the need for more private companies to play their part in community upliftment.

“As a thriving corporate in South Africa it is our obligation to help disadvantaged communities wherever possible,” he says.

“This gift will give the children access to modern technology and advanced educational resources. They will gain from the knowledge and experiences of others, participate in educational chat rooms, share ideas and solutions, and learn about the many diverse cultures of our globe. We are confident that this library will help enrich young minds and welcome this opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of children.”
