The Theatre Dance Association based in Claremont will be taking 12 dancers on a tour to Los Angeles next month.

The two-week tour is aimed at educating the youth about dance as a career. They will be exposed to international dancers during various activities planned for the tour.

The opportunity has been made possible through the association’s partnership with the World Dance Tour.

It will include interaction with world-renowned choreographers at three of the world’s leading dance schools, lectures and dance career advice from dance and talent agents, and seminars with professional dancers. They will also get the opportunity to share the stage with some successful international dancers.

“This incredible tour will provide insight and a better understanding of what is going on in the world of dance. It is offering something very different and it is the first time a team of South African dancers will be a part of it. The intention is for aspiring dancers – who want to make dance their career one day – to see, learn, grow, be inspired, motivated and educated about the industry at a professional level. Over the last few years there has been a surge of overseas competitions luring dancers and teachers to compete at an international level, and they have, but not always successfully.”

Hannah Kritzinger (14) is excited about the chance to go overseas. “I cannot stop thinking about how much I will enjoy it. It is my first time going to Los Angeles and Disneyland. I am looking forward to the dance classes and to learning new styles of dance.”

Rachel Barnard (14) says it is teamwork and commitment that have brought them this far.

“Everybody brings something special to the group, but we could never have done it without our dedicated teachers. I’m so proud to be a part of this team and cannot wait to get there.”

One of the learners still needs R19 000 to fund the costs of the trip.V To donate towards the trip, send an email to theatredanceassociation@gmail.com.
