Crawford resident Shadley Schroeder hopes to wow locals when he presents his production Reborn – The musical concert, which will be performed for one night only at the Joseph Stone Auditorium next Saturday at 20:00.

Schroeder, who calls himself a simple “Cape Flats boy”, started acting at the age of five. Schroeder has already garnered a few notable roles in the local film industry, playing a part in David Kramer’s Blood Brothers, followed by an appearance in the acclaimed Four Corners.

“Landing a role in Blood Brothers was my first big production. Before that I performed in a couple of small productions. It is a tough industry to get into, but the right role can open so many doors. It just takes one good role to launch your career,” he says.

Besides acting, Schroeder loves directing and would like to produce more productions.

“I thought why not create a production right here in Athlone for my people? I am blessed to be able to do this and I know it is going to be big,” says Schroeder.

The musical production is influenced by Motown, soul and old school music. He says the reason he chose to produce a show of this nature was because he feels that many of the sounds, music and lyrics have faded in the hearts, homes and lives of those who used to listen to them.

“I feel that it needs to return, as those songs of those years have moulded and united us to love each other. The storyline is for my audience to embrace and enjoy the musical journey with me and some friends,” Schroeder says.

He admits that he is anxious, but at the same time excited.

“Following your passion will lead you to success. After all, youngsters should follow their dreams and passion, that will lead them in the right direction,” he says.

After all, Schroeder is just a simple “Cape Flats boy” living his dream.

V Tickets for Reborn – The musical concert cost R120. Contact 021 697 1086 or 062 373 0257 for more information.
