Young members of a brand new cycling club in Ocean View, the Fresh Start cycling club, will represent their province at a competition in October.

For the last two years, Ocean View learners have competed in the Western Province schools league, with six learners selected to represent the province last year. This year, nine learners were selected.

Coach Abduraghiem de Klerk is very proud of his team who performed so well on the road.

“These eight boys and one girl proved themselves at the Cycling South Africa Youth Festival in Oudtshoorn last week. They represented Western Province.

“The good news is that the whole team was selected to represent WP in Piketberg in October,” he says.

Alistair Farmer and Denzil Kesner won gold medals last week.

Jared Uithaler, Eric Oerson and Nathan Stuart received silver medals and Amien de Klerk won a bronze medal.

De Klerk adds: “This year we have established our own club in Ocean View – Fresh Start cycling club. We continue to cycle in the yellow and black Rawson tops.

“We are currently raising much-needed funds in Ocean View to assist our [cyclists]. Parents, family and friends are hosting various fundraising initiatives as the cyclists are responsible for all the costs related to cycling youth festivals.”
